Meme from </a> Comment on this post. I will choose 6 interests from your profile and you will explain what each of them means (and why you're interested in them). Here are the ones she picked for me: Wolves: I've always loved wolves. Beautiful animals. I also have thought myself to be very much like one. Sometimes travelling in packs, but really a solitary animal. I've always wanted to have a pet wolf. Or a part-wolf dog. Instead I've got myself two beautiful Huskies, which are close. Goju karate: I wanted to learn karate for years. Self defense plus good exercise. I never got around to it until a year ago or so. It got me exercising regularly plus made a very good friend out of one of my instructors at the Nav school - a guy who was also practicing. Poker: What can I say? I love to gamble. Poker allows me to think, use numbers, play the odds, and give me a good chance at winning. Whether it be the ever-popular Hold'Em or Omaha or 7 card Stud or Razz or Triple Draw ... I love challenging myself and always improving my game. Firefly: Is awesome. Joss Whedon is God. Jayne is hot. Action. Sci-Fi. Space. Action. Comedy. What else can a girl ask for? Hiking: I'm big on photography. Hiking gives me the opportunity to take lots of pictures. Given I live on Vancouver Island right now, there is lots of hiking, lots of trails, and lots of picture taking to be had. Also the puppy likes to walk (and run and jump and play) and hiking is a way she can do that. Scotland: Scotlant is another thing I've always had this irrational love for. I've never been there. I'm not Scottish. But since I was young I relished everything Scottish. I read up on their history, my beloved Mary, Queen of Scots. I always wanted to write and be a writer, and I did research on Scotland to be a setting for one of my novels. I researched and read and mainly I think just wanted to know it all. I still have my notes, though I've never written anything other than fanfic and DC stories. |

I have my ADvanced Nav final tomorrow morning. I have done so little studying for this that it isn't even funny. I just can't focus. I sit down, and start reading my review notes ... and because I'm sitting still and not really doing much my mind starts to wander and so I start thinking about things. Yesterday was so much better. I was able to keep myself distracted and busy (not studying though) until going to a friends for Thanksgiving dinner. Today wasn't great though. *sighs* This test is going to go so badly tomorrow ... |

Why is it that when you're down, things always exist that tend to point out your situation to you. I was watching last week's Desperate Housewives earlier and the conversation between Susan and Ian just hit close to home (and we won't go into the fact that his name is Ian either ..)
.... "While love can be spontaneous and wonderful it can also be selfish. And sometimes, the best thing you can do is to walk away" .... "Sometimes walking away can be the best choice - its certainly safer - but what do you do when you find someone that makes you feel joy when you thought you never would again? Do you just let them go? No." Alas. This is the way the wind blows ... |

France is in the finals of the World Cup! Excellent! Normally I wouldn't care less. I wouldn't have paid any attention to the world cup or soccer or really anything relating to it. Well, as of a couple years ago. Now I watch the soccer and I cheer for France because Gilles isn't here to do it. How sad, but there it is. I've been thinking about him a lot more this summer than usual. Maybe its the soccer? Maybe its ... I don't know really. I just have had Gilles on my mind. *sighs*

We're scheduled to fly next week on Thursday and Friday. Ack. Of course its never going to happen -- there will likely be delays for other courses and we'll get bumped but still. Ack. I'm terrified. First flight ... Oh yea, did I mention? Ack! |

There was a Sea King Helicopter on the tarmac this morning. Very odd. One thing that you do *not* expect to see in the middle of the country is a SEa King! lol. They must have driven it. Or something. There's no way it would make it this far - even with refuelling. It would need so much maintenance along the way that it wouldn't be worthwhile. As to other news ... my sister is back at home out of the hospital. She's on complete bed rest for the week. As of next week she'll be allowed to move around a bit and only be allowed to work from home. At least she works from home most of the time anyways. She can just grab her laptop and bring it down to the couch. Going golfing tomorrow with some people. Then plans for another 18 on Saturday in Portage. Fun. |

So my sister had a scare in her pregnancy last night. Apparently she started hemmoraging and had to go into the hospital. Then she started having contractions. They were worried they'd have to do a c-section. She's only 29 weeks. Luckily the bleeding has (mostly) stopped and although she is still having contractions they are very mild and far apart - they believe they're just false labour now. Anyways, she'll be in the hospital for the next couple days until the bleeding has stopped etc. Then on bed rest at home for at least a week. |

I've never really had much trouble with sleep before. I'd go to bed. Even early most of the time and I'd still fall into a deep slumber right away. Nothing would wake me. Okay, well almost nothing. I'd sleep all through the night and wake up either on my own just before my alarm would go off or after it did. No snooze button for me. No dreams. Or no dreams that I can remember anyways as it's unlikely that I didn't dream at all. This past week (more?) I've been having a great deal of trouble falling asleep. I lay down in bed and even though I'm exhausted before lying down, I'm all of a sudden awake. I toss and turn and eventually get up. I come sit at the computer for a bit, or read. Something. Then try again. And again. And again. I've resorted to sleeping on the couch this week. Not because its really that comfortable. Its just easy to pick up a book and read for a bit before trying to sleep again. Last night (that would be Saturday night) I didn't go to sleep until after 3am. Not because I was out and about and doing interesting and fun things with friends ('cuz that never happens). But because I couldn't sleep. Again. I think I might be better off if I took a nap in the afternoon when I'm done work and then just stay up really late. Technically I'm supposed to get 8 hours a night (well, at least when I start flying), and if this doesn't fix itself soon I'm going to be really annoyed. More than I already am. *sighs* Insomniacs Anonymous, here I come. |
